Who is a Dyslexia Training Designee?

Every Arizona school serving K-3 students must identify at least one teacher who is responsible for receiving approved training in #1) Understanding and Recognizing Dyslexia (URD), #2) Reading Instruction (I), and #3) Intensifying Instruction (II). About this Training

This is a customized version of our Keys to Beginning Reading course, approved as an AZ science-of-reading training to meet requirements #2 and #3. It provides the background knowledge needed to teach all the components of beginning reading instruction, and intensifying instruction for students with reading difficulties. Instructional suggestions are easily transferred to classroom lessons and can be integrated with any reading curriculum or published program. Course cost includes a 460-page training manual.

 Facilitated Online Format: This is a facilitated online course that combines the 39-hour online course with 12 hours of virtual-live sessions, facilitated by a Keys to Literacy trainer. Participants complete sections of the asynchronous online course at their own pace, interspersed with virtual-live sessions. If for some reason you miss a facilitated session, they will be recorded and saved for one week for later viewing. You will have access to the online course for a year.

  • Comprehension
  • Students with Reading Difficulties
  • Reading Assessment

Who Should Participate:  Grades K-3 educators who are identified to become a Dyslexia Designee for their school. Any K-3 AZ educator interested in learning more about the science of reading and how to implement it in a classroom.

Course Schedule

The facilitated meetings are scheduled for March 14, March 21, March 28, April 4, April 11, April 18, April 25, May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, 2022 from 3:30 to 4:45 PM AZ time (please note that some meetings will end at 4:30 PM).


**Please note that training books will need to be mailed to participants.  Books will be mailed to the billing address provided, unless noted otherwise in the notes section of the online registration or sent to us by email.

* Note that Keys to Literacy may cancel this facilitated online course if there are fewer than 3 registrations. Educators will have then have the option to take the asynchronous online course at a reduced rate. Contact us if you have any questions.
*Registrations received after February 25 cannot be guaranteed a book in time for the training.
