John is a passionate educator who brings over a decade of school-based experience to his work. Before joining Keys to Literacy, John taught at the elementary and middle school levels. In addition to his teaching experience, he has served as principal and an assistant principal at both the elementary and middle school level in rural and urban settings. His primary responsibility in these administrative positions was instructional coaching. In addition to his school-based experience, John has worked as a K-12 literacy specialist at the Rhode Island Department of Education and worked as an independent literacy consultant supporting rural and urban schools across the country. His work in schools focuses on shifting practices to better align with the Science of Reading. As a result of John’s experience, he not only understands what needs to change, but also how to drive that change. His coaching prioritizes the development of strong relationships and narrows the focus for school leaders and teachers to drive meaningful and lasting change. In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and running.
