Literacy Leadership Coaching and Implementation

“The reading gains from replacing a below-average principal with an above-average one, would be larger than approximately 50% of the effects on reading achievement of various educational interventions in 747 studies.” (Kraft, 2020)

“Moreover, principals strongly shape the conditions for high-quality teaching and are the prime factor in determining whether teachers stay in high-needs schools. High-quality principals, therefore, are vital to the effectiveness of our nation’s public schools, especially those serving the children with the fewest advantages in life.” (Wallace Foundation, 2021).

Year One: Building Audit & Leadership Coaching

  • Expert-Led Evaluation: Year one begins with a comprehensive audit conducted by seasoned consultants.

  • Proprietary Tools:

    • Elementary Schools: Literacy Evaluation Tool (LET)

    • Secondary Schools: Highly Effective Schools Rubric

  • Customized Roadmap: Each school receives a detailed evaluation report and a personalized action plan tailored to its unique strengths and growth areas.

  • Targeted Coaching Visits:

    • Seven 2-day coaching sessions throughout the year

    • Each session includes a review of measurable outcomes, an Instructional Focus, a Next Steps Report, and a focused Action Plan, all based on current data

  • Built-In Accountability: Every visit begins by assessing the implementation of previous action steps, ensuring consistent follow-through.

  • Strategic Alignment: Helps create a unified vision among school leaders, coaches, and faculty.
  • Engaging, School-Wide Focus: Promotes a visible, school-wide instructional priority that energizes staff and drives improvement.

Years Two Through Five: Sustained Impact Through Leadership Coaching

  • Long-Term Support: Designed as a 3–5 year cycle for deep, lasting transformation.

  • Gradual Release Model: Coaching tapers over time as schools develop strong internal systems.

  • Flexible Coaching Cadence: Typically starts with seven visits in year one, reducing visits in subsequent years, as schools gain independence.

  • Sustainable Results: Builds focused, self-sustaining systems that continue to drive high achievement long after coaching ends.

  • Exit Strategy with Impact: Our ultimate goal is to “work ourselves out of a job,” leaving behind empowered leadership and thriving schools.
