Keys to Literacy is proud to partner with Read Naturally to offer Keys to Beginning Reading (KBR). This practical course is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association’s (IDA) Center for Effective Reading Instruction

 

About the Course

KBR provides the background knowledge needed to teach all the components of beginning reading instruction. The instructional practices are designed to easily transfer to classroom lessons and can be integrated with any reading curriculum or published reading program. The course is tightly aligned with state literacy standards. 

 

How will the course be offered?

Between January and May 2024, K to Grade 3 educators have three options for taking Keys to Beginning Reading

OPTION 1: Live, virtual Delivery via Zoom meeting- Register here

  • Session Dates: March 13 & 20       
  • Time: 8:30-3:00 EST       
  • Cost: $325/per person 

Participate in a two-day live training delivered by Keys to Literacy trainers using a virtual-live format (using Zoom meeting software). Participants will receive the Keys to Beginning Reading manual when they register.  The following modules will be explored over the two days:

  • Module 1: Reading Basics
  • Module 3: Phonological Awareness
  • Module 4: Phonics

OPTION 2: Facilitated Online Course – Registration Closed

  • Session Dates: 1/16, 2/6, 2/27, 3/19, 4/9   
  • Time: 4:00-6:00 EST  
  • Cost: $590/per person

Participants spend approximately 36 hours completing modules on their own via an asynchronous online course and attend five, 2 hour, virtual-live meetings facilitated by Keys to Literacy trainers that total 10 hours. Participants access the self-paced online course content via readings, videos, quizzes, and reflection activities. They share some of their reflections as a component of the virtual-live facilitated sessions.  Click here for the schedule.

In order to start the online course the week of January 15, participants have until January 5 to register. Online courses will be activated and books will be shipped by January 15 for participants selected for the course.  Download an informational flyer that includes the full course outline.

OPTION 3: District or School Delivery

Keys to Literacy offers live-virtual or onsite professional development for building or district-based cohorts of up to 35 people. Please contact lisa@keystoliteracy.com for more information.
