This series will support anyone who has attended Keys workshops in the past and is looking for suggestions on how to use our teaching strategies virtually. We are excited to share a variety of suggestions and resources for working with students remotely.  Haven’t attended a Keys training yet? Key Vocabulary Routine: Previewing Vocabulary Virtually

Thursday  October 8, 2020, presented by Lisa Klein 

Participants will learn how to use previewing as a comprehension and vocabulary strategy in the virtual classroom, grades 3-12.  The trainer will demonstrate how to provide “I Do” and “We Do” activities as part of a pre-reading routine. Participants will experience the previewing process in a virtual format and leave with access to electronic templates to support their instruction.

Key Comprehension Routine: Virtual Categorizing  & Top-down Topic Webs

Thursday October 15, 2020, presented by Colleen Yasenchock

Participants will learn how to use categorizing and top-down topic webs as comprehension strategies in the virtual classroom, grades 2-12. The trainer will demonstrate how to provide “I Do” and “We Do” activities to support comprehension. Participants will experience using these strategies in a virtual format and leave with access to electronic samples and templates to support their instruction.

Virtual Activities to Support Beginning Reading Instruction

This webinar will share virtual instruction resources to support early, foundational reading instruction in early elementary grades.  The trainer will demonstrate activities using these resources as part of your daily reading instruction block. This webinar would make a good follow-up to the free webinar “Instructional Suggestions for Beginning Phonics Instruction” presented by Joan Sedita on October 13.

Key Vocabulary Routine: Word Parts & Context Clues in the Virtual Classroom

Participants will learn how to look “inside and outside” a word by using context clues and word parts to determine the meaning of an unfamiliar word.  The trainer will demonstrate how to provide “I Do” and “We Do” virtual activities to support this component of vocabulary instruction. Participants will  leave with access to electronic documents to support their instruction.

Key Comprehension Routine: Virtual Annotating for Text Structure & Main Idea

This webinar will share resources to support instruction about text structure, including identifying main ideas, in the virtual classroom. Participants will learn how to model annotating text to highlight text structure and recognition of main ideas using technology. This webinar would make a good follow-up to the free webinar “Teaching Text Structure to Support Comprehension and Writing” presented by Joan Sedita on November 10.
