The Role of Orthographic Mapping in Learning to Read

November 4, 3:30-4:15 Eastern Time

The Role of Orthographic Mapping in Learning to Read

Orthographic mapping is the process that all successful readers use to become fluent readers. Through this process, students use the oral language processing part of their brain to map (connect) the sounds of words they already know (the phonemes) to the letters in a word (the spellings) to permanently store the words as instantly recognized words. Join Joan as she explains orthographic mapping and what it means for early reading instruction.
