Become a Certified Faculty of the Keys to Beginning Reading online course!  Is your college or university faculty interested in embedding the IDA Accredited Keys to Beginning Reading course within their foundational literacy courses or supporting other faculty in enhancing their background knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices aligned with the Science of Reading? What is Keys to Beginning Reading? It is an IDA Accredited professional development course that provides the background knowledge needed to teach all the components of beginning reading instruction, aligned with the science of reading research. What does the Certified Faculty do?

Preservice StudentsCertified faculty of Keys to Beginning Reading support students as they progress through course content leveraging a curated collection of KBR resources designed for Certified Faculty use.  Preservice students complete 36 hours of online course modules embedded within one or more courses.

Faculty/Staff: Faculty/Staff complete 36 hours of online course modules and participate in a community of practice led by the Certified Faculty of Keys to Beginning Reading. The community of practice sessions, designed uniquely for higher education, provide a collaborative opportunity to debrief activities, share ideas for connecting course content to classroom instruction, and thought partnership led by Certified Faculty of Keys to Beginning Reading.  These sessions are interspersed following a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the department or extended campus.

What is the Hybrid-Online Model? Educators complete 36 hours of online course modules and participate in facilitated debrief sessions (typically 11 sessions, 60 to 75 minutes each). The online modules are asynchronous – users log in at any time. The debrief sessions are interspersed following a flexible schedule.

What is the cost? The cost to attend the Certified Faculty Training is $1050 which includes 3 days of training, online course registration, training manual and PPTS, and access to a curated collection of KBR resources designed for Certified Faculty.

Certified Faculty Requirements: To successfully complete this training and become a certified faculty of Keys to Beginning Reading, the following requirements must be met:

  • Complete the 36-hour online course prior to attending the 3 days of training
  • Complete the 3-day Train-the-Faculty training
  • Pass the Keys to Beginning Reading assessment with a score of at least 80%

 

Schedule

 

Prior to June 27, you are required to complete the 36 hours of the online course. The course is asynchronous – you may log on any time to complete the modules at your own pace.

 

During the 3 days of training:

The expert Keys to Literacy trainer will model how to conduct the community of practice facilitated meetings, with you in the role of preservice teacher or faculty. During this time, the KTL trainer will review the slides, model the sessions, and provide a collaborative opportunity to debrief activities, share ideas for connecting course content to classroom instruction, and thought partnership. Additionally, the trainer will offer facilitation suggestions, answer your questions, and walk you through the curated collection of KBR resources designed for Certified Faculty use.

During the training, you will be asked to complete a Keys to Beginning Reading assessment which you are required to pass with an 80% score or higher. You will have an opportunity to study the course content and take the test again if you do not pass it the first time.

  • Module 2: Oral Language
  • Module 3: Phonological Awareness
  • Module 4: Phonics
  • Module 5: Fluency
  • Module 6: Vocabulary
  • Modules 7 & 8: Sentence Structure, Text Structure
  • Module 9: Comprehension
  • Module 10: Instruction for Students with Reading Difficulty
  • Module 11: Reading Assessment

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY

  • If you cancel 3 days or more prior to training, you will be issued a full refund.
  • No refunds will be issued for "no shows" or cancellations within 72 hours of training.
  • Substitutions accepted.
