Katie is a Trainer with Keys to Literacy and began her career as a K-2 classroom teacher. She received a B.A. in Elementary Education and History from Guilford College and a M.Ed. from Liberty University. She is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. Katie was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2020 before becoming a reading specialist and literacy coach. She has worked with teachers and students in North Carolina and Virginia to improve literacy instruction and engagement. Her favorite literacy topic involves the brain science around learning to read words. Katie has been trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and LETRS. She is certified in PreK-6 Elementary with reading specialist and social studies endorsements for K-12. She believes that learning to read and write can be fun, especially when you incorporate movement, pop-its, and Play-Doh in the process! In her free time, Katie enjoys visiting the beach and spending time with her family.
