Susan is a Trainer with Keys to Literacy and a passionate educator with over 30 years of experience. From her roots as a K-1 teacher in central Arkansas, to helping K-8 students and teachers reach their full potential in northwest Arkansas, she strives to empower the next generation. Susan has worked as a literacy coach, curriculum specialist, and Executive Director of curriculum and instruction. Throughout her career, she has introduced K-12 educators to the Science of Reading and structured literacy to support classroom instruction. In addition, Susan is an Arkansas Reading Initiative for Student Excellence (R.I.S.E) trainer, LETRS Foundations-trained, a National Writing Project Fellow, and a national consultant and writer contributing to published resources about quality lesson planning. Susan holds a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas and an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in TESOL from John Brown University. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, reading, traveling, and spending time with family.
