Leading Research-Based Writing Instruction
with The Writing Rope (Live Virtual Training)
This is a one-day training. April 22, 2025
Live, Virtual Professional Development
This one-day professional development is designed for leaders and instructional coaches leading research-based writing instruction across schools and districts. Led by Lisa Klein, KTL's Vice President, Director of Relationship Management, the session will begin with an overview of Joan Sedita’s The Writing Rope: A Framework for Explicit Writing Instruction in All Subjects. Based on research findings, the framework organizes effective writing instruction practices into five strands. Next, participants will learn about Keys to Early Writing, a practical course that provides the background knowledge needed to teach the components of beginning writing instruction. The instructional suggestions are developmentally appropriate for young children in kindergarten through grade 2, and easily transfer to classroom lessons that can be integrated with any writing curriculum or published writing program. Finally, participants will learn about Keys to Content Writing, professional development for research-based best practices for writing instruction that can be integrated in any subject and aligned to state literacy standards.
*Registrations received after April 7 cannot be guaranteed a book in time for the training.
