About the Dyslexia Professional Development Requirement

Idaho Code 33-1811 states that no later than the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, K-5 educators (instructional staff and coaches employed by a local education agency and involved in the instruction of students in grades K-5, including those providing special education instruction) and 6-12 educators (all teachers, administrators, and school counselors with an instructional certificate in grades 6-12) must receive dyslexia professional development.

Educators have several options for meeting this requirement:

  • K-5 Educators: Complete our 6 to 8-hour Understanding Dyslexia course, OR our 16 to 21 hour Keys to Beginning Reading Part A course, OR our full, 36 to 48-hour Keys to Beginning Reading course.
  • 6-12 Educators: Complete our 6 to 8-hour Understanding Dyslexia course.

About the Dyslexia Recertification Requirement

Educators holding a certificate with an expiration date after the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year will be required to earn 1 or more credits of PD in Dyslexia to certify. One credit is defined as 15 hours of course work. This requirement is for all subjects (K-8), exceptional child generalist, blended early childhood/special education, administrator, and school counselor. It must be completed no later than the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.

Educators have several options for meeting this requirement:

  • K-5 Educators: Complete our 16 to 21 hour Keys to Beginning Reading Part A course, OR our full, 36 to 48-hour Keys to Beginning Reading course.
  • 6-12 Educators: Complete our 6- to 8-hr Understanding Dyslexia course COMBINED WITH our 11 to 21-hour Key Comprehension Routine course.

Format options for these courses include asynchronous online course, facilitated online course, or live training. Certificates of completion are provided with all courses for verification of participation.
