Dyslexia Handbook for Families

The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) recently published a booklet for parents of students with dyslexia titled: IDA Dyslexia Handbook: What Every Family Should Know.

The booklet covers these topics:

  • Definition and characteristics of dyslexia
  • Assessments for dyslexia
  • Identifying effective teaching approaches
  • Managing the education of a student with dyslexia
  • Transitioning into college
  • Recommended resources

The website for IDA has a number of resources about dyslexia for families, educators, and individuals with dyslexia.

My favorite resource for information about dyslexia and other reading disabilities is LD Online.  Here you will find hundreds of resources and you can sign up for their online newsletter.

And here is another excellent website for information about reading and learning disabilities: National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD)
