Keys to Literacy’s Certified Facilitator Model
Licensed Certified Facilitators deliver professional development for select Keys to Literacy programs through a blended online training model. This approach seamlessly integrates face-to-face facilitation with an online course, allowing facilitators to engage participants in interactive learning experiences. By combining in-person debrief sessions with online resources, facilitators can provide tailored support that meets the diverse needs of educators while enhancing their understanding and application of the Keys to Literacy programs. This model promotes ongoing collaboration and skill development, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for all participants.

Keys to Literacy Professional Development
Onsite & Online Learning That Lasts
Keys to Literacy offers options for delivering professional development that accommodate the different needs of districts, schools, and educators. We use a multi-component professional learning model that includes initial training and long-term support for teachers, administrators, and peer coaches. We also offer a variety of onsite, online, and certified facilitator delivery models.
The Key Comprehension Routine - Grades 4-12
This course provides instructional routines geared toward comprehension strategies that support and impact listening and reading comprehension in any subject area.
The Key Vocabulary Routine - Grades 4-12
This course provides instructional routines geared toward vocabulary in any subject area that supports students with evidence-based strategies such as selecting words to teach in-depth, using context and word parts, and promoting word consciousness.
Keys to Content Writing
Keys to Content Writing equips grades 3-12 educators with evidence-based practices for integrating writing instruction across all subject areas. The program focuses on strengthening students’ critical thinking, text organization, syntax, and writing craft through practical strategies that align with state literacy standards. Participants learn to use writing to deepen content learning while providing appropriate scaffolds to support all learners across grade levels and disciplines.
Keys to Beginning Reading
The IDA-accredited Keys to Beginning Reading offers K-5 general educators and K-12 special educators/interventionists comprehensive training in essential structured literacy components through eleven modules. The evidence-based 40-hour course covers the science of reading fundamentals, addressing the strands of Scarborough’s Reading Rope, from foundational skills like phonemic awareness and phonics (word recognition strands) to components like vocabulary, comprehension strategies, and reading assessment (language comprehension strands). The instructional practices are designed to easily transfer to classroom lessons and can be integrated with any reading curriculum or published reading program.
Keys to Early Writing
Keys to Early Writing provides K-2 educators with comprehensive, evidence-based strategies for teaching foundational writing skills. The course addresses critical components including text structure, syntax, transcription skills (spelling, handwriting), writing craft, and the writing process. Through systematic instruction, educators learn to build a community of writers while developing students’ skills in sentence construction, organizing ideas, and writing from sources.
Advanced Word Study: Grade 4 and Beyond
This course provides instructional practices for teaching advanced word study skills that combine knowledge about both the sound-spelling correspondences and the meaning units (morphemes) that make up most English words.
