Keys to Literacy & Lead to Literacy: A California Partnership
Keys to Literacy is a professional learning partner for Lead to Literacy (LtL), a statewide California initiative strengthening secondary literacy across county offices of education. Led by Napa COE in partnership with Butte, Riverside, Siskiyou, and Tulare COEs, LtL is aligned to California’s CLSD priorities. Keys to Literacy is proud to provide literacy leadership and adolescent literacy professional learning for this initiative.
Enroll in the Leadership Course
Take the Lead to Literacy online adolescent literacy leadership course at your own pace. This 12-hour asynchronous course covers Literacy Basics, Adolescent Literacy, supporting students with literacy difficulties, and data-driven reading intervention. Includes the training book The Essentials of Adolescent Literacy. Available to individual educators and school groups.
Cost: $200 per participant
Become a Certified Facilitator
County Offices of Education and district staff can pursue the Certified Facilitator pathway to build internal capacity for delivering adolescent literacy leadership professional development across their region or district.

Keys to Literacy offers options for delivering professional development that accommodate the different needs of districts, schools, and educators.
Keys to Adolescent Literacy
Equips educators and leaders with evidence-based strategies for disciplinary literacy, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing across content areas in grades 4-12. Foundational to the Lead to Literacy partnership work in California.
Keys to Beginning Reading
IDA-accredited 40-hour course covering the full scope of structured literacy and the Science of Reading, from foundational phonics skills to comprehension and reading assessment in grades K-5.
Keys to Early Writing
Comprehensive, evidence-based strategies for foundational writing skills, including text structure, syntax, transcription skills, writing craft, and the writing process in grades K-2.
Keys to Content Writing
Evidence-based practices for integrating writing instruction across all subject areas in grades 4-12. Strengthens critical thinking, text organization, syntax, and writing craft aligned to California literacy standards.
